Zomato has confirmed that it will officially change its corporate name from “Zomato Ltd.” to “Eternal Ltd.,” with approval from its board of directors on February 6. The company had already started using the name “Eternal” internally more than two years ago after acquiring Blinkit. This decision reflects Zomato's evolution from a food delivery service to a company with multiple business segments, including Blinkit, District, and Hyperpure.
The rebranding process will involve transitioning the company’s corporate website from zomato.com to eternal.com, and the stock ticker will change from ZOMATO to ETERNAL. The shift will be finalized once it receives approval from shareholders. Despite the corporate name change, the Zomato app and brand will continue to operate under its original name, ensuring no disruption to its consumer-facing services.
The name change is part of a broader strategy to reflect Zomato’s diversification beyond its core food delivery business. Zomato’s acquisition of Blinkit, which focuses on quick commerce, marked a significant expansion. Additionally, Zomato’s B2B business arm, Hyperpure, which supplies ingredients to restaurants, and District, a logistics service, further reflect the company’s broadening scope. These three businesses, combined with Zomato’s original food delivery service, will now operate under the new corporate identity of Eternal Ltd.
Zomato was originally founded in 2007 as Foodiebay, a platform to upload restaurant menus, and later rebranded to Zomato. Over the years, it grew into one of India’s largest food delivery platforms, eventually becoming the first Indian startup to be listed on the BSE Sensex in December 2023. The company's expansion into new business verticals has been driven by acquisitions, including Blinkit in 2022, marking a key step in its transformation from a food delivery service to a multi-sector company.
The company’s restructuring into Eternal Ltd. aims to better represent the four key business segments: Zomato (food delivery), Blinkit (quick commerce), District (B2B logistics), and Hyperpure (restaurant supplies). Following shareholder approval, the corporate name change will be completed, marking a major milestone in Zomato’s growth and its broader vision to create a lasting, diversified business.
